Farewell Ireland

As we drove through the Welsh countryside our bus was silent save for the gentle humming of its engine. Most were sleeping, but a restless few attempted to read or simply gazed out at this stunning landscape. The greenness of this place is like nothing else. The Grass, trees, and moss seem to radiate something more than color; it is life and fertility; it is a land that has been loved. The isolation and calm of Wales is so refreshing after the crowded mayhem and excitement of Dublin. Our few days there were certainly not enough to unlock all that Dublin held, but even so, it is a wonderful city.
We enjoyed visiting Trinity College (it was glorious to be back on a college campus) where we saw The Book of Kells as well as a library I think I could just about live and die in. To see history not just in buildings and ruins, but in literature as well is such a beautiful thing. A friend and I picked up a grad school catalogue mostly to entertain a dream, but truly, how glorious would it be to study on that campus and in that city! But just a dream...just a dream. We also visited the Dublin castle and National Library of Ireland. Both of which were also simply amazing.

Dublin also held nightly live music, the musical Evita, a visit to the Guinness factory, and delicious food while in Dublin. Ireland has been a wonderful host and I will surely miss the gusto of the Irish people, their delicious accents, and all the memories made there.

Nighttime Dublin.

  2. Happy Belated Birthday Gia! So stoked you got a chance to see Dublin. Our family had a great time when we were there. I especially liked Trinity College. My dad and I would go running there in the morning, and I kept hoping that I was passing for a student.

And isn't that library awesome!! It's like C.S. Lewis' house in Heaven.
